Stricken

There was a fairy tale one day,
of students learning peacefully;
the right to learn was paramount,
the support provided, ne’er in doubt.

But then upon a Winter’s morn,
to much appraise, disgust and scorn,
the keepers of the mind took off,
their lives and futures – strucketh off.

What world is this, when in the end,
They in power spend spend spend;
but those who inspire, guide and nurture
are knocked off, struck down, condemned?
