‘Convince yourselves,’ he’ll say
Like it’s any other song on any other day.
Then he nips out for a quick chat and a fag break,
A fresh wreck left perplexed in his wake.

The baffled quiet fractures and stirs
As the wounded wise move to tend to their hurt.
Unbending crossed wires and stamping out misfires,
Bright sparks and high flyers both grounded and burnt.

My sisters in arms, is this not what we came for?
Our measure, remember, is tempering this storm.
A true meddler knows that to climb you must crawl,
So once more unto the breach, once more.
