I’m often asked what it is I do,
“I study maths,” I plead guilty to.

Their reaction is unsurprising,
A look of bewilderment arising,
This whole encounter unappetising,
And with their loss for words subsiding…

“Why?” They ask with a confused expression,
“I just like maths,” comes my darkest confession.
